Spring into Tortuga Beach Cleanup

Fort Lauderdale, Florida
March 22, 2025

Overview

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with The Local Octopus Foundation and Rock the Ocean for the official Tortuga Music Festival beach cleanup kickoff event. We were joined by more than 105 volunteers who came by to do their part to collect debris along the Fort Lauderdale beach, with the option to partake in educational activities, a workout class, and a cold plunge! Our volunteers returned with full buckets of debris, while the SeaKeepers and Rock the Ocean teams got to work sorting the trash into categories to upload data to TrashBlitz. This app allows cleanup participants to upload data on brands, materials, and items that are collected at cleanups to inform policy regarding ocean pollution in the United States. By the end of the cleanup, the amazing team of volunteers had collected over 275 lbs of trash, the overwhelming majority of it being soft plastics, hard plastics, and small plastics such as straws and bottle caps. To reward their hard work participants were entered into a raffle, and two lucky volunteers went home with free tickets to Tortuga Music Festival! We are so proud to leave the Fort Lauderdale beach a bit cleaner for all to enjoy and we are very grateful to The Local Octopus Foundation and Rock the Ocean for having us on as a partner.
