Purpose of Research

The Crowd Sourced Bathymetry Working Group is an International Hydrographic Organization meeting which aims to combine knowledge across multiple Crowd Sourced Bathymetry organizations including Hydrographic Offices of several countries, Non-profits like Seabed2030 and SeaKeepers, and industry partners like Orange Force Marine. This advances the status of Crowd Sourced Bathymetry research by giving us a platform to discuss needs, tools, advancements, and goals for advancing the field.

Program Overview

The week of March 24-28th, 2025 our Data Scientist and South Pacific team met at the 16th annual Crowd Sourced Bathymetry Working Group Meeting. Here they convened with collaborators from more than 13 countries to discuss global efforts in crowd sourced bathymetry. This Meeting also consisted of a "Hack-athon" or a computer programming workshop where SeaKeepers Data Scientist led members of the working group through utilizing global computer-based tools in CSB collection and submission. The team also advocated for the adaptation of these tools to be more user-friendly, lowering the barrier-to-entry for new Trusted Nodes. Ultimately, this workshop was a great success and resulted in the commission to create a Crowd Sourced Bathymetry guide for future Trusted Nodes to work from.
