Earth Day 2025 Tabling with St. Thomas University Dining
Miami, Florida
April 22, 2025
Overview
On April 22nd, 2025, The International SeaKeepers Society partnered with the Campus Dining of St. Thomas University to host a tabling event on St. Thomas’ main campus in Miami. This tabling event served as part of St. Thomas University’s Earth Day campaign, which also included setting up and planting a community garden with student volunteers. Our Community Engagement Associate, Lillian, and our Educational Outreach Associate, Jack, set up various activities, provided free SeaKeepers items, and interacted with more than 120 students over the course of the event both to encourage SeaKeepers engagement and in celebration of Earth Day 2025. We even utilized a game called Sink or Float, where students had the chance to learn about the seven major types of plastic and determine based on its properties whether each would sink or float when exposed to seawater. Throughout the day, we had many in-depth conversations with students about the nature of plastic pollution, marine conservation issues, and of course the work that SeaKeepers does all over the world from education and outreach to scientist expeditions and the DISCOVERY program. We give a huge thanks to the team at St. Thomas University for hosting us and for leading such fun Earth Day initiatives, and we hope to see them as well as some of the students at future SeaKeepers events!
